The ex-RFEF president has been sanctioned for his behaviour after the World Cup final

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee announced on Monday that it has disqualified Luis Rubiales, former president of the Spanish Football Federation, from exercising any activity related to football for three years, both at national and international level, considering that his conduct after La Roja won the Women's World Cup violated article 13 of the Disciplinary Code of the highest international football body.

The suspension is national and international and Rubiales will be able to appeal the decision to the FIFA Appeal Committee.

This case relates to events during the FIFA Women's World Cup final on 20 August 2023, for which Rubiales had been provisionally suspended for an initial period of 90 days. The then-head of the RFEF kissed Jenni Hermoso on the lips without her consent, pressured the player to downplay the moment publicly and refused to resign over the incident.

"The decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee was notified today to Mr Rubiales, who, in accordance with the FIFA Disciplinary Code, has 10 days to request the reasoned decision, which will be published on legal.fifa.com if requested. This decision can be appealed to the FIFA Appeal Committee," said Gianni Infantino's governing body.

"FIFA reiterates its absolute commitment to respect and protect the integrity of all persons and to ensure that the basic rules of civic conduct are respected."
