Lionel Messi was not, surprisingly, among the Spaniard's picks for best player

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente did not vote for Leo Messi at 'The Best' awards gala. The coach, surprisingly, did not give his support to the Argentinean, widely considered the best player at the last World Cup in Qatar.

The coach from La Rioja, however, did give his vote to another member of the 'Albiceleste', Julián Álvarez, who received the highest score from the new Spanish coach.

As second choice, De la Fuente opted for England's Jude Bellingham, who had a very good season with Borussia Dortmund, backed up by his performance with England at the Qatar tournament.

Lastly, De la Fuente also gave Madrid's Luka Modric a high mark for his season. The Croatian was champion of La Liga and Champions League with his team and helped Croatia go far in the World Cup.
