Spain coach Jorge Vilda says he has never thought about quitting
Vilda was speaking after naming a squad without the 15 players that sent emails last week
Spain coach Jorge Vilda says he has never considered quitting his role despite the furor surrounding the women's national team.
Vilda was speaking in a news conference on Friday after naming the Spain squad for the upcoming friendlies against Sweden and the United States.
None of the 15 players who sent emails last week asking not to be included unless there were big changes have been selected, and neither have Jenni Hermoso nor Irene Paredes.
Before taking questions, Vilda said: "I want to thank the coaches from across the men's and women's game that have sent me messages of support, beyond friends, family and colleagues, including people I don't even know. I also want to say that I don't wish on anyone what I am going through.
"The first think I have to say is that, due to the lack of clarity in the message from the players, there have been doubts created and suggestions something non-sporting has happened. It's normal, because everything that's been created does not make sense in a sporting sense. And in this sense I want to make an appeal and if there is something that has not been exquisite in terms of treatment, from here I challenge anyone to come out and say if there has been been a lack of respect or a fault in my behavior with them.
"From then on, what I believe is that you have to be brave, that is why I am here once again and I am ready to answer any question truthfully because with truth and courage you go far and all this time we have worked with honesty to give everything, which is the most important thing. Now we are going to play against the third and first best teams in the world, that is the preparation I wanted for the World Cup. And just now they have sent us an email."
To close, the coach assured that he has never thought of resigning.
