Fornals and Torres were on target as Spain won while Sweden suffered a loss in Greece

Spain beat Kosovo 2-0 on Wednesday to breathe fresh life into their World Cup qualification as hopes as Sweden were beaten 2-1 by Greece.

Pablo Fornals and Ferran Torres were on target for Spain as they made it six points from a possible nine during the current international break.

Last week's defeat to Sweden meant it wasn't nine from nine and put the Scandinavians in the driving seat to win the group.

However, after winning their first three games, Sweden suffered their first defeat in the qualification campaign on Wednesday as they went down in Greece.

Spain lead the group with 13 points from six games, while Sweden sit second with nine points, but they do have two games in hand. Greece are third with six from 12, clear of Kosovo and Georgia.

Only the group winners are assured of their place at the Qatar 2022 World Cup and Spain now have qualification back in their own hands.

Even though Sweden will go top of the group if they win their matches in hand, Spain will finish top if they win their final games as their last fixture is at home to the Swedes on Nov. 14. They travel to Greece three days earlier.
