Ramos wants the Bernabeu to back Spain on Saturday

Sergio Ramos has once again defended Spain team-mate Gerard Pique, who has been regularly jeered by supporters when representing his country.

Spain play Italy on Saturday night and Barcelona defender Pique is once again the focus of the attention as he’s expected to be the subject of boos at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu home.

“Whistles don't help anybody,” Ramos said in defence of his international colleague. “Pique has been an exemplary player for the Spanish national team.”

"We have to have the maximum respect for the players that wear the Spain shirt. I hope the fans support the team and we feel at home. The Bernabeu is a unique stage and we all have to pull in the same direction."

After Italy, Spain play Liechtenstein next week as they look to cement their place at the World Cup in Russia next summer. Spain and Italy top the group with 16 points each from six games.
