Luis Rubiales will stand as a defendant in the National Court on charges of sexual assault and coercion

The judge of Spain's National Court, Francisco de Jorge, has summoned the former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales to appear on Friday as a defendant following his conduct after the World Cup final.

Prosecutors filed a lawsuit against Rubiales last week after his unsolicited kiss on Spain forward Jennifer Hermoso's after the final in Australia, when La Roja beat England 1-0.

The judge agreed to open a case on Monday, admitting the prosecution's complaint against Rubiales for the crimes of sexual assault and coercion.

The coercion charges relate to Rubiales' behaviour after the kiss, with allegations he and people close to him put pressure on Hermoso and her family to say what had happened was fine.
