The coach has various rules and techniques to get the best out of his players

On Friday the Spain national team headed to London ahead of the UEFA Nations League clash with England on Saturday, Luis Enrique’s debut as national team coach.

Lucho has been working with his team for four days and has been strict. Mobile phones have been banned from each of the team’s meals. They have to stay at the door of the dining room, or if they come in, they must be off.

SPORT have learned that Luis Enrique has also chosen the wake-up times and hours food is served.

The Asturian likes to talk to the team in short bursts, never for longe than 20 minutes.

Lucho is conscious that this is the only way to get the full attention from the players. Any longer and they lose focus.

He has also closed the training sessions and no public or media can watch them.

There is a lot of tactical work, and on Thursday night they practices corners, free-kicks etc, knowing the power England have in this area.

Punctuality is important for Lucho. He is always the first to arrive, 10 or 15 minutes before the players turn up. He also likes the factor of surprise - planning exercises the players don’t know about and nobody outside of his close technical team does.

Lucho has also surprised people with his friendliness. He has told stories of his adventures with triathlons and ultra marathons, which he will continue whole being coach.

Four days of work have been enough for Lucho to make his mark in the Spain camp.
