The 17 year old Spain midfielder netted against the Czech Republic and broke a record

Gavi made history with the Spanish national team. The Barcelona teenager scored for La Roja against the Czech Republic at 17 years and 304 days, to beat Ansu Fati’s record of 17 years and 311 days.

Speaking to Sefutbol, Gavi highlighted the good atmosphere there is in the squad, especially with his team-mate.

“Ansu told me I had eight days to beat it, he was happy that I had and the two of us are very happy to be here.”

Gavi added that “I hope there are many more goals” and discussed his strike. “It was a quick move, Rodri passed it to me, I controlled it and tried to cross with my left. I celebrated quickly because we were losing and wanted to come back.”

Gavi said he was ‘proud’ for the record but ‘not just for that, but also for being with the Spanish national team. I give thanks to those that believe in me and my team-mates.”

He also had a special mention “for my family, who are always with me ... (and) for the coach, the staff and all those who believed in me.”
