Xabi Alonso extends stay at Real Sociedad following Gladbach links
The former midfielder has signed a new contract in San Sebastian until 2022
Xabi Alonso has signed a contract extension with Real Sociedad, keeping him at the Basque club until at least 2022.
Former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder Alonso took over as the club's B team coach at the start of the season.
Doubts surface in recent days about his future in the role, though, following links to the vacant manager's role at German club Borussia Monchengladbach.
However, La Real confirmed on Friday that Alonso, who started his playing career at the club, has renewed his commitment for another season.
Alonso said he was "excited" to be staying in an interview with the club's website and showed his gratitude for the faith shown in him.
