Zidane made it clear that he did not appreciate Barça snubbing the guard of honour in December and that is why his side will not do it

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane spoke to the media on Saturday ahead of the Clasico against Barcelona at Camp Nou and gave his reasons why his side will not give the Catalans the traditional guard of honour for winning the league.

The French coach, who has said he will not rotate his squad against Barça in preparation for the Champions League final, said "it's not a decision I can take by myself" and explained that his motives come from Barça snubbing Madrid in the last Clasico on December 23 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid were crowned Club World Cup champions the week before but Barcelona did not offer them the guard of honour, with directors from the Blaugrana saying it was because Barça were not in the Club World Cup this season.

"For them after the Club World Cup it wasn't important to do the guard of honours and they said it was because they weren't in the competition," Zidane explained.

"That was a lie. To play in the Club World Cup you have to win the Champions League and we are all in the Champions League. They didn't do it for us."
