Zidane's departure put brakes on Madrid's move for Lemar
The Monaco attacking midfielder was a target before the French coach quit
After France Football claimed on Tuesday that Real Madrid's move for Liverpool forward Sadio Mane fell through when Zinedine Zidane left, now has arrived the turn of Thomas Lemar.
The show ‘L’equipe du soir’, presented by Olivier Ménard, says the France star was a Madrid target. Journalist Damien Degorre revealed that "Lemar would have been at Real Madrid if Zidane had stayed."
And he suggested that the club had reached an agreement for the player before Zidane left. After the French coach said goodbye, the situation changed.
It's not the first time Lemar's been linked with a Spanish club. The 22-year-old has previously interested Barcelona and Atletico Madrid but Monaco have always fought to keep him -- they may not manage to do that this summer, though.
As was the case with Mane, who could have been Madrid's first signing this summer, Zidane's unexpected resignation has put the brakes on a move for Lemar.
According to Degorre, the Monaco man had told Zidane 'yes' ahead of a move worth around 60 million euros.
