Mariano has played just 47 minutes this season and hasn't played since Jan. 12

Mariano Díaz is the surprise pick in Real Madrid's squad for Sunday's Clasico against Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Coach Zinedine Zidane, who is without the injured Eden Hazard and the suspended Rodrygo Goes, has left out Nacho Fernandez, James Rodriguez, Brahim Diaz and Luka Jovic.

Mariano has played just 47 minutes -- with them all coming in the Spanish Super Cup. He has not played since Jan. 12 due to injury, so his selection ahead of Jovic was not expected.

Madrid, who start the weekend two points behind leaders Barcelona, are also without long-term absentee Marco Asensio.

The full squad is: Courtois, Areola, Toni Fuidias, Dani Carvajal, Militão, Sergio Ramos, Varane, Mendy, Marcelo, Casemiro, Valverde, Kroos, Modric, Isco, Lucas Vázquez, Vinicius, Bale, Benzema & Mariano.
