Would it suit Real Madrid to come second in their Champions League group?

Zidane's side may get a more favourable draw if the DON'T beat Dortmund on Wednesday

Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund meet on Wednesday with top spot in their Champions League group up for grabs. In theory, winning the group ensures an advantage in the next round, with the home leg played second against a side which finished as runners-up in their group.

However, with a number of groups already decided, Real Madrid may decide that it's best to finish second, not first. A draw or a defat against their Bundesliga opponents at the Santiago Bernabeu will leave them as runners-up.

With just four games to be played, Groups F and H remain open. While Madrid and Dortmund will play for top spot, Sevilla and Lyon will play to join Juventus in the next round, while the Italian side are not guaranteed top spot -- although they should do enough to win the group.

The other six group winners are all decided: Arsenal, Napoli, Leicester, Atletico and Barcelona will all be the top seeds in the draw. And remember Madrid can't draw a fellow Spanish side at this stage (Juventus/Sevilla and Madrid/Dortmund will be the other two teams).

Meanwhile, in the second pot already confirmed are PSG, Benfica, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen. Porto or Copenhagen will join that group from Group G (Juventus/Sevilla/Lyon and Madrid/Dortmund will be the other two teams).

Keeping in mind that the last 16 tie is always against a team from another country, it could be in Madrid's favour to not win against Dortmund.
