Was Ronaldo out for revenge on Lucas Vazquez?
Madrid coach Zidane has played down an incident between the two in training on Friday
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo was once again the protagonist for the wrong reasons in his team’s training session on Friday ahead of this weekend’s derby against Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon.
Ronaldo put in a strong challenge on his teammate Lucas Vazquez in one of the mini-games at the end of the session. It was a challenge which in a game may have merited a red. It left Lucas on the floor with pain in his ankle, while Ronaldo, after patting him on the head, re-joined in with the game.
It’s a challenge which may have been revenge after the two exchanged comments on social media this week. Ronaldo accused Lucas and the Spanish national team of ‘copying’ Portugal’s ‘Mannequin Challenge’. Lucas’s reply was: “Hahaha I didn’t know you had invented it, Cristiano.”
In his press conference after the session, Zidane played down the clash between the two players: “No! Ronaldo is always like that, his energy is contagious. I want him to be like that always. Lucas Vazquez is fine, there’s no damage.”
