Sergio Ramos got way with a stamp on the Athletic man at San Mames on Sunday

Moments after referee Gonzalez Gonzalez went to the pitchside screen to give a controversial penalty against Dani Garcia on Marcelo, tipped off by the VAR, the official applied different standards at the other end of the pitch.

Raul Garcia claimed a penalty when he was stamped on in the area as Athletic sought an immediate equaliser against Real Madrid, who won 1-0 thanks to Sergio Ramos' 73rd-minute penalty.

However, Gonzalez Gonzalez didn't even look at the screen and the VAR didn't consider it worthy of review. The criteria changed in just a matter of seconds, seeing what had happened in the Athletic box before. Incredible what happened at San Mames.

Once again -- and now so many times since La Liga resumed -- Real Madrid saw refereeing decisions clearly help them towards the three points.

When Zinedine Zidane's side struggle to find the breakthrough -- like against Getafe on Thursday, too -- they always get a hand from the officials. And it's impossible to fight against that.
