UEFA have charged Real Madrid defender for deliberately picking up a booking in his side's Champions League win over Ajax on Feb. 13.

Ramos was booked late in the game after Madrid took a 2-1 lead. The caution meant he would miss the second leg, to be played at the Bernabeu next week.

The centre-back said after the game that he'd forced the yellow card to get the booking out of the way. He later claimed he had been misinterpreted, saying what he meant was he took the booking to stop an Ajax counter-attack.

UEFA announced on Feb. 14 that they would look into the incident and have now confirmed they have charged Ramos his actions.

The punishment for the Madrid captain will be decided at the next UEFA disciplinary meeting, which will take place later this week (Feb. 28).

Last week, Valencia's Geoffrey Kondogbia was handed an additional two-game ban (so three games in total) for a similar even in his side's win over Celtic in the Europa League.
