El Mundo have accessed documents relating to Ronaldo's tax case

The Madrid player has evaded almost 15 million euros in taxes

In a normal situation and in compliance with the law, Cristiano Ronaldo should be in prison. That is what has been extracted from a statement which El Mundo has had access to made by the head of the Central Coordination Unit of the Treasury in matters of Tax Crime in the Portuguese player's tax fraud case.

Caridad Gomez said in his court appearance on Dec. 7 in front of judge in Pozuelo de Alarcón that fraud is "very important" and that "honestly, we have people in prison for avoiding paying 125,000 euros. The lack of declaration to the Treasury in the Ronaldo case, with the surcharges and interests of delay,  is a very important amount (14.7 million euros)."

Gomez adds that "the evasion of at least four fiscal crimes is completely voluntary" and rejects that we are facing a "purely technical discrepancy" as the defense of the player, led by lawyer José Antonio Choclán, affirmed.

And Gomes also explained that "the player has used figureheads and tax havens for the taxation of his image rights," that his conduct has been dominated by "opacity," and that the scenario presented by Ronaldo of having a corporate structure in the British Virgin Islands was one of "this is not going to be detected."
