The worst Real Madrid defence in a decade

Este Madrid es un coladero en defensa | sport

Since 2008-09, with Schuster on the bench, they have not conceded so many goals

Before with Julen Lopetegui and now with Santiago Solari. Real Madrid are in ruin. And, above all, in defence. The numbers at the back are worrying. It's one of the main reasons why the European champions are out of the Champions League spots in LaLiga.

After conceding three times in Saturday's loss at Ipurua against Mendilibar's Eibar, Madrid have now conceded 19 goals in the league, an average of nearly a goal and a half every game (1.46).

They're unrecognisable figures at the Bernabeu. You have to go back a decade, to the 2008-09 season, when Bernd Schuster was in charge, to find worse numbers.

With the German, though, Madrid had only lost three games -- against Deportivo, Valladolid and Getafe -- according to a report in Diario AS and they'd scored 10 more goals, leaving them fourth in the table.

Without doubt, Real Madrid have some issues to fix. They need to sort them out before they lose sight of the top of a tightly contested LaLiga table.
