Sergios Ramos is using China to get more money out of Real Madrid

The player's entourage have leaked a rumoured offer from an unamed Chinese club for 22 million euros per season

Sergio Ramos' long and drawn out contract renewal with Real Madrid has taken a fresh turn. The player is after a two-year extension to his existing deal, coupled with a significant pay increase, but now his entourage have leaked an offer from an unnamed Chinese club which is willing to pay the Spanish international 22 million euros per season. Madrid have a policy of only handing one-year deals to their older players but Ramos wants a pay rise from his nearly 12m per season deal to 18m. This would make him the highest earner at the club ahead of Gareth Bale (17m).

This offer from China doesn't mention whether it's for the 20/21 season of the 22/23 season. If it's for next season, Ramos would still be under contract with Madrid and they would demand at least €70m and have no intention of letting him leave for nothing.

IN 2015, RAMOS USED MANCHESTER UNITED

This leak will remind a lot of people of what happened in 2015. At that time Sergio's brother and agent, René Ramos, offered the defender to Manchester United and there was interest from both sides in concluding a deal. Florentino Perez caved in and gave his club captain the wage rise he asked for.

Madrid remain calm despite Ramos, Modric, Nacho and Lucas Vazquez being out of contract next summer. The plan isn't to offer any of those a pay rise and some might even be asked to take a slight pay cut. Florentino wants to keep Ramos at the club but won't offer crazy money, especially in the post-COVID world. "The situation is bad. We can't ask for the players to take a pay cut and then make big money transfers," argued the Los Blancos president.
