Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty should have been retaken because the ball was moving when he hit it, during Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over PSG on Wednesday night.

The Portuguese veteran’s former Manchester United team-mate Rio Ferdinand has revealed that Ronaldo used to take penalties like that in training during his time in England, suggesting he might have got the ball to jump up before he hit it on purpose.

“He used to do that in training, you know,” said Ferdinand on BT Sport.

“He used to mess about in training and do that in training. I’m not sure he meant to do that there, but he did use to do that on training. I swear, crazy.”

Real Madrid came from behind after Adrien Rabiot put the visitors ahead, with Ronaldo netting twice and Marcelo adding a third as they scored an important last 16 first leg victory at the Santiago Bernabeu.
