According to Belgium newspaper 'HLN Sport', the true cost of the deal to bring Hazard to Madrid has now come to light
Real Madrid will pay Chelsea 160 million euros for Eden Hazard, not 100 million euros which was originally reported. According to 'HLN Sport', the true cost of the deal will be made in three instalments of 40, 56 and 64 million euros.
This means that Madrid paid a record fee for a 28-year-old who has struggled to produce his best form. The €160m fee eclipses the €101m paid for Gareth Bale and the €94m paid for Cristiano Ronaldo.
14 MILLION EUROS A YEAR SALARY
Real Madrid paid this fee despite Hazard only having a year left on his deal at Chelsea. He'll earn €14m-per-season until 2024.
It was a debut season to forget for Hazard who struggled for fitness and form, despite there being a break in play due to the coronavirus outbreak.
This summer Madrid have paid the second instalment of €56m for Hazard, taking the total cost of the deal to €100m, with the remaining €64m due in 2021.
Hazard, like Bale before him, has failed to fill the gap left by Cristiano's move to Juventus.
