Request made for RFEF to strip Real Madrid of four Copa wins

Request made for RFEF to strip Real Madrid of four Copa wins

The argument is that the competition was not officially organised by the RFEF at the time

Barcelona socio Joaquim Molins, member of Un Crit Valent which presented itself in the Blaugrana elections in 2003, has presented a burofax to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) requesting that they remove four Copa del Rey titles from Real Madrid which were won between 1903 and 1909 because during this period the competition was not officially organised by the stated Federation.

Molins' demand is based on the RFEF's decision, a few years ago, to reject a request from the Disputes Congress to officially validate the Copa del Presidente de la Republica won in 1937 by Levante because it was not a competition organised by the Federation. The same happened with the League Championship in the same year, named the Mediterrenean League, and won by FC Barcelona.

The RFEF said at the time that for a competition to be official it must be organised directly by the national federation which is recognised by FIFA and that any other competitions cannot be considered official national competitions. For that reason, Molins feels that "the Copas which took place before the creation of the RFEF in 1909 cannot be considered, under any concept, as official."

In fact, according to the lawsuit, the majority of these competitions were directly organised by Madrid, with the club's own address where registrations for the competition were sent. For that reason, Molins requests that the Copas won by Madrid in 1905, 1906, 1907 and 1908 be removed from their official honours.
