Real Madrid supporters club deny any links to referee Gil Manzano

Rumours had surfaced linking the La Liga official with the Peña Dombenitense

Gil Manzano's name is still on everyone's lips. The referee was involved in a scandolous night at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Sunday when he gave Real Madrid a non-existent penalty.

He also left the stadium with a Madrid bag which had been given to him and his assistants, leading to plenty of criticism and rumours in the days which have followed.

One of the stories which surfaced was that Gil Manzano was the president of the Madrid supporters club called Peña Dombenitense. However, said supporters group have denied that to be true.

A statement read: "Don Alfonso Abel García Gómez, of Real Madrid's Peña Dombenitense, and representing the board, would like to manifest the following.

"Firstly: for a while there have been false rumours appearing on social media relating referee Jesús Gil Manzano with our peña, affirming that he's the president. We have received calls from radio and written media asking about this supposed relationship.

"Secondly: we want to categorically deny that there exists or has existed a link between Gil Manzano and our association.

"Thirdly: we ask that the false accusations stop because they are prejudicing both our peña and the referee in question, too."
