Wales' Bale is set for another spell on the sidelines

He's hoped to be back for the Atletico match this month

Gareth Bale’s return to action has been pushed back once again after Real Madrid confirmed the Welsh forward has torn his hamstring.

Bale, 28, was expected to return after the international break when Madrid play rivals Atletico Madrid, but an injury sustained in training last week will see him spend several more weeks on the sidelines.

Madrid have not confirmed how long they expect him to be out for, but it’s another blow for the former Tottenham man, who’s suffered a string of injuries since moving to Spain in 2013.

“Gareth Bale, who felt some discomfort in his left leg at the end of last Thursday's training session, has undergone different tests with the club’s medical services on Friday,” a club statement read.

“Real Madrid Sanitas have diagnosed a fibrillar fracture in the middle third of the adductor longus muscle [torn hamstring] of the aforementioned leg.”

Bale has made just four starts in La Liga this season, scoring two goals, and has not played for Zinedine Zidane’s side since the 3-1 win over Borussia Dortund at the end of September.

Since then, he has missed eight matches and it’s likely that he will not play again during the current calendar year.

Los Blancos are at Atletico’s new Wanda Metropolitano home after the international break and Bale had hoped to be back for that game, but that will not now be possible.

His participation in the Clasico, against Barcelona on Dec. 23 at the Santiago Bernabeu, may even be in doubt.
