Benzema's responded after the FFF chief said his France career is over

"(Karim) Benzema's adventure with the French national team is over." Those were the comments made by Noel Le Graet, the president of the French Football Federation (FFF), in an interview with RMC Sport this weekend. It would appear to definitively close the door on the Real Madrid striker playing for his country again.

"For me, Benzema is a very good player and I have never placed his quality in doubt," Le Graet said before his more controversial take. "This year he has shown that again in Madrid, that he is one of the best in the world in his position."

Benzema didn't take long to reply. The Madrid man took to Twitter to express his anger at the comments. First of all, he retweeted a comment by his agent, Karim Djaziri, criticising the fact it was the FFF chief taking a position on the issue and not the France coach, Didier Deschamps.

A few minutes later, Benzema added his own opinion: "Noel, I thought you didn't interfere with the coach's decisions! Know that it's me and only me that can bring an end to my international career. If you think I am finished, let me play for one of the countries I am eligible for and we will see."

France, led by Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe in attack, face Albania on Sunday in their final qualifying game for Euro 2020.

Benzema has not played for Les Bleus since 2015, following his conflict with former international teammate Valbuena.
