The midfielder is not in favour at Madrid and asked the club to let him leave

Martin Odegaard is set to join Arsenal on loan until the end of the season in the coming days after the Premier League club reached an agreement with Real Madrid.

Odegaard, 22, has not featured regularly under Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane and asked the club to let him leave this month.

According to the journalist Fabrizio Romano, Odegaard has opted for Arsenal ahead of Real Sociedad and Ajax.

He spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad and has previously spent time on loan in Holland, too, although not with Ajax.

Romano says Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta personally called Odegaard to convince him to join him in England.

It was that level of interest and persuasion that tipped the scales in the Gunners' favour and helped them land the Norwegian international.
