Zidane will have to cut some attacking players from his squad this summer

Real Madrid's hierarchy have decided to go big on one of the team's weaknesses over the last season: their lack of goals. That explains why three of their five signings so far this summer have been attacking players, as is the case with Brazil's Rodrygo Goes, Serbia's Luka Jovic and Belgium's Eden Hazard. The problem coach Zinedine Zidane has now is that he has too many forwards. The 'overbooking' is clear.

Zidane finds himself with three No.9s (Benzema, Jovic and Mariano) and another eight players to cover the two wide positions (Vinicius, Rodrygo, Lucas Vázquez, Marco Asensio, Bale, Hazard and Brahim). The French coach will have to move on the players who are not in his plans. If he doesn't, every week he will have to leave out seven players.

The priority now is to find homes for those not wanted. On the exit ramp are Gareth Bale and Mariano to begin with, with Lucas Vazquez perhaps behind them. But if there's a good offer for Marco Asensio, Los Blancos could consider selling him. A loan move for new signing Rodrygo has not been ruled out, either, or he could even start the season with the B team, as Vinicius did last year.
