Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez says no one is more pissed off than the players after they were beaten 1-0 by Villarreal at home on Saturday.

Madrid have now failed to win in each of their last three La Liga games, losing to Barcelona and Villarreal and drawing with Celta Vigo.

They're fourth in the table, just one point ahead of Villarreal, who moved into fifth with their win at the Bernabeu.

"I don't know what's happened," Nacho said after the Villarreal loss.

"Our attitude has been good, we've fought hard, although Villarreal were good in possession and caught us out from our own corner.

"No one is more pissed off than us. It's not an attitude problem. The team has worked hard, ran... but they caught us out."

Madrid are now 16 points behind leaders Barcelona, a gap which could be 19 points by the end of the weekend if Ernesto Valverde's side beat Real Sociedad on Sunday.

"We haven't started the year well, but this is Real Madrid and we can't drop out heads," Nacho said about the title race.

"We always say that we will keep fighting to give ourselves a chance, but every time we don't win there's less of a chance. But we're going to keep on fighting."

Midfielder Casemiro added: "We're fighting, we're doing everything but scoring goals, while the opposition get one or two chances and score a goal. That's what's happening.

"We're all affected by the loss. They were important points and we're sad, but this is football and if you don't score goals..."

Asked about Madrid's chances of winning La Liga, the Brazilian added: "Nothing is in impossible in this life but it's almost impossible. Now we have to think on a game to game basis because Real Madrid always have to be up the top."
