The deal for Hermoso depends on whether Jesus Vallejo joins Real Sociedad on loan or not

With the imminent arrival of Mariano Diaz from under the noses of Sevilla, Real Madrid weren't expected to make any more deals in this transfer window. The only area which might need improving is at centre back, as they try to find someone to play backup to Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.

This potential arrival depends on whether or not Jesus Vallejo joins Real Sociedad on loan. Julen Lopetegui is a big fan of the player's potential but injuries have halted his progression. A more regular flow of minutes elsewhere might be more worthwhile than a bit-part role at Real Madrid.

If Vallejo stays, there won't be any more transfers. If he leaves, then another left-sided centre back who can also slot in at left back would be preferred. And this is where Mario Hermoso's name has come up. Formed in Real Madrid's 'La Fabrica' academy, he signed for Espanyol last summer in a €300,000 deal. Of course, Madrid have the right to buy back the player for less than his €40m buyout clause and he's available for just €15m.

It would be a transfer that hurts Espanyol as they won't have much time to find an able replacement. Hermoso was a starter and even got on the scoresheet in Espanyol's league opener against Celta Vigo.
