The youngster won't be allowed to play in the U20 South American Championship with his national team as Real Madrid want him to remain in Spain

Real Madrid have blocked Vinicius Jr. from appearing for Brazil in the South American U20 Championship. It's a competition which takes place in Chile and will begin on the 17th January and run until the 10th February. However Real Madrid don't want to release the forward and have already told the CBF of their intentions.

It's a competition which isn't included in FIFA's calender of events and as such, Real Madrid are free to block Vinicius Jr. from playing in it. Whilst the player is reportedly keen to represent his country, Madrid have let him - and the Brazilian FA - know he won't be leaving Spain. "It's confirmed that Vinicius won't go to the South American Championship. Their position is very clear. He wants to be here, with the national team all the time, but they won't allow him to," added Brazil coach Carlos Amadeu.

A return to Brazil's U20 side was something Vinicius Jr. was keen on and admits he misses playing with the national team.

Vinicius Jr. posted a message in support of his former side, Flamengo, as they celebrate their 113th birthday. "It's the team of my heart, who I care about a lot. I'll always hold you in my heart after wearing your sacred shirt."
