Real Madrid show interest in former Barcelona left-back Cucurella

The defender is out of favour at Chelsea and could be on the move in January

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in the situation of Cucurella, who is on the exit ramp at Chelsea as a player who is not in Mauricio Pochettino's plans for the future.

Cucurella was close to leaving this summer, but the London club demanded around €50 million after the investment made in him last year. Some Premier League clubs were interested, but he ended up staying. According to 'The Sun', Madrid are now enquiring about a possible deal in the future.

Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton for a transfer fee of €70 million. He arrived to be a starter on the left flank, but his performance did not end up being good and his minutes have diluted until his situation has become almost untenable. According to the British media, Madrid could be interested in repatriating him as long as the conditions are good and not through a transfer.

Madrid are betting this season on canterano Fran García, who has returned after his spell at Rayo Vallecano, and also have Mendy, a player whose contract expires in 2025 and, for the moment, has not been renewed. This summer, the club were open to transferring him to renew the left-back position, but in the end the player ended up staying and will have minutes once he has recovered from his injury.
