Monaco's vice president met Madrid representatives at a hotel in the Spanish capital

Madrid's first offer was not enough, though, and the player's unsure about moving yet

Alvaro Morata's imminent move to Manchester United has changed Real Madrid's plans. Zinedine Zidane and Florentino Perez are aware they need to make a statement on a sporting and institutional level (there's an election this summer) and both have decided Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe is the player they should move for.

Madrid have not wated any time. As soon as they knew of Morata's desire to move, they got to work and began to negotiate with Monaco. According to OK Diario, the Ligue 1 club's vice president, Vadim Vasilyev, made his way to the Spanish capital to sit down and talk terms regarding the teenage sensation. Vasilyev, who has the confidence of Monaco owner Dmitri Rybolóvlev, met with Madrid representatives in the Villa Magna hotel.

TALKS TAKING PLACE

The meeting served for talks to officially begin. Madrid are aware Monaco want a world record fee, with Manchester United's Paul Pogba (120 million euros) currently the most expensive player ever. Madrid's first offer was not that high, though. Perez went in with 100 million euros, although Monaco have already rejected similar bids from elsewhere.

Away from the money, both clubs must agree what happens with the player immediately, too: if he joins this summer or next year. At 18, Mbappe does not want to spend a season on the bench and has told Monaco he'd like to stay for another 12 months. He wants to ensure he goes to the World Cup with France in 2018. So Madrid don't just have to convince the club, but also the player.
