Carlo Ancelotti's side left it late but eventually racked up a big win over the islanders

Real Madrid are what they are. And it’s a team that sometimes needs to start losing to remember how to win. History repeats itself again and again. And it happened here, against Real Mallorca, ending up in a comfortable scoreline which keeps them top of the league.

Madrid didn’t have talisman Karim Benzema, but in the end it didn’t matter.

Mallorca started well with towering striker Muriqi netting in the 35th minute with a big header at the far post.

However Fede Valverde equalised with a brilliant run and lashed strike from distance just after half time.

It took a while longer for the effective winner to come, with Vinicius Junior netting it in the 72nd minute, sneaking in down the left and tucking home.

Rodrygo scored a fine third, dribbling into the box skillfully and putting the game to bed, with Antonio Rudiger adding the fourth late on with a volley from Toni Kroos’s set piece.
