Real Madrid 3-1 Man City (6-5 agg): Rodrygo and Benzema do it again

Man City and Pep Guardiola were dumped out after another stunning UCL remontada

Real Madrid did it again. Rodrygo saved them in stoppage time with a stunning brace and then Karim Benzema fired home from the penalty spot to dump Manchester City out and reach the Champions League final.

They had already enjoyed miracle comebacks against PSG and Chelsea but they pulled off another one at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

After a tight opening 70 minutes or so, it looked like City were going to keep Madrid at arm’s length and hold on to their 4-3 first leg lead.

And then they extended it, with Bernardo Silva capitalising on a huge space in Madrid’s midfield and setting up Riyad Mahrez to hammer home.

Game over, run over. Or not. It should have been but Grealish missed twice when well placed, denied by Mendy and then Courtois.

Madrid pulled level on the night when Benzema set up Rodrygo to strike.

And then Dani Carvajal crossed and the Brazilian headed home.

Extra-time, and Ruben Dias, still stunned it seemed, gave away a penalty for a foul on Benzema.

The French forward slotted home and that was more or less that.

Real Madrid face Liverpool in the Paris final on May 28.
