Just when it matters most, Real Madrid have found top gear. Ahead of Wednesday’s Copa del Rey semi-final Clasico clash, they thrashed Alaves 3-0 to cut the gap on Barcelona to eight points at the top of La Liga.

"I came on and was a bit nervous after so much time, nobody wants to make mistakes in front of these fans, but I fixed it with a goal," said a pleased Mariano. ”I’m very happy at getting back playing again, happy for winning and for that final effort that ended up in a goal. We will continue this form."
