Real Madrid 2-1 Shakhtar Donetsk: Benzema and Vinicius fly but team whistled

Real Madrid did not play well but took three points against Shakhtar Donetsk, thanks to two Karim Benzema goals and two Vinicius Junior assists.

While that dynamic duo were on song, the stadium was awash with whistles as the team struggled against their Ukrainian visitors.

Benzema’s first goal was Madrid’s 1000th in the history of the European Cup, and the second was a thing of beauty after good interplay with Vinicius.

However in between the two Fernando lashed home after a nice set-up by Alan Patrick and it led to frustration in the capital.

Carlo Ancelotti was bailed out by Benzema’s second goal but the Italian knows this performance was not good enough.
