Real Madrid 2-1 Manchester United: Zidane beats Mourinho in Super Cup
Los Blancos were the better team but had to hold on at the end
The English side could have equalised late on but for a Rashford miss
Real Madrid held off Manchester United to win the UEFA Super Cup, with Casemiro and Isco's strikes enough in the face of Romelu Lukaku's for the Red Devils.
Madrid were the better team hitting the woodwork through Casemiro and Gareth Bale, but after Lukaku pulled one back for United, the English Europa League winners were on top.
Marcus Rashford missed a golden chance late on which could have pulled United level, but Madrid held on to retain the UEFA Super Cup, becoming the first side to manage it since AC Milan in 1990.
Casemiro was lucky with his opener as he was offside when he ran onto Dani Carvajal's ball and slotted home in the 24th minute. Isco's second was more impressive, with the Spaniard finishing after a one-two with Bale.
Lukaku stabbed home when Keylor Navas spilled Nemanja Matic's shot, but United could not find the vital second.
Cristiano Ronaldo entered the fray late on as a substitute, firing a free kick over the bar.
