Daniel Wass’s eighth minute own goal handed Madrid the lead after fine work from the impressive Dani Carvajal, and Santiago Solari’s side dominated the first half.

However they did not add to their tally and Valencia started to create chances, with Santi Mina somehow missing when through on goal and Thibaut Courtois denying Michy Batshuayi in a similar situation.

“We can’t go out on a stage like that and give the image of ourselves that we did in the first half,” complained Santi Mina afterwards.

And while Valencia refused to make good on their second half chances, Carvajal had another goal planned.

The defender started the attack that led to Lucas Vazquez sweeping home to seal the game for the European champions.

Isco came on as a late substitute after the coach had not picked him against Roma even on the bench in the Champions League in midweek.

The player has not started a game for Madrid since Solari took over and this latest cameo probably won’t make him feel much better -although another victory is helping Los Blancos get over their recent woes.
