Real Madrid 2-0 Getafe: Casemiro and Vazquez earn Los Blancos three points

The soon to be Spanish champions moved further clear at the top of La Liga

Carlo Ancelotti shuffled his pack but Getafe couldn’t cause Real Madrid any problems at the Santiago Bernabeu. Gareth Bale even appeared, for the first time since February 2020 at Madrid’s stadium.

By that stage the game was over, with goals from Casemiro and Lucas Vazquez doing the damage.

Karim Benzema thought he had continued his fine form earlier in the game but his strike was correctly ruled out for offside.

Instead it was Casemiro, ending a personal goal drought, who broke the deadlock. Vinicius Junior curled in a fine cross from the left and Casemiro was on hand to convert with a diving header.

He was booked later in the game for protesting, which means he’ll be banned for the clash with Sevilla. And he might have been sent off, had he received a merited earlier booking for a foul on the edge of his own box.

Vazquez put the game out of sight with a good finish in the second half and that was that. Madrid moved onto 72 points with seven games to go. 12 ahead of Sevilla in second and 15 ahead of Barcelona, third, although the Catalans have two games in hand.
