Madrid cut Barca’s advantage down to eight points before Atletico clash

Real Madrid eased past Celta Vigo with goals from Marco Asensio and Eder Militao to cut the gap on Barcelona to eight points.

The Catalans face Atletico Madrid on Sunday in a tricky fixture as they continue their bid to win the title for the first time since 2019.

Madrid were too good for a Celta that rarely threatened at the Bernabeu.

Asensio netted the opener before the break with a slightly fortunate finish after Vinicius Junior set him up.

Militao nodded home from an Asensio corner afater half-time to double the lead.

Iago Aspas missed a huge chance, through on goal but denied by Thibaut Courtois - who kept a fourth clean sheet in a row.

“We're going to fight until the very last game, until it's mathematically no longer possible," said the goalkeeper after the game.

"It's a shame that we've dropped a points along the way, but that's normal with the Champions League on the line. Now we have a week with three league games and we have to win them. "After the Cup final we will see how many points we are behind Barcelona and if we are in with a chance."
