Real Madrid 2-0 Alaves: Another penalty, another win

New game, same story. Real Madrid were given a penalty, debatable as per, and went on to beat Alaves to move four points clear at the top of the league, with three games remaining.

With no Sergio Ramos, it was Karim Benzema who scored from the spot after Ferland Mendy was supposedly felled by Ximo Navarro. The Madrid man certainly made the most of what contact there was.

And Benzema made the most of the penalty, putting it away low in the bottom left corner, putting his team on their way to maintaining their 100 percent record since the restart.

Alaves started strongly, hitting the bar and having a shot cleared off the line, but their fight was over after that, with Benzema netting in the 11th minute.

The second followed in the second half with Madrid benefitting from VAR when Benzema fed Marco Asensio, who struck but was ruled offside. After a VAR check, they found him to be on.

Thibaut Courtois made a decent stop to deny Joselu on the hour mark as Alaves looked for a way back in, but all doors were closed.

Rodrygo found the same at the other end with Roberto impressing in goal for Alaves, but it didn’t matter as Madrid took the points at the Alfredo di Stefano stadium.
