Real Madrid 1-1 Atletico: Derby draw puts title on a plate for Barca

The Catalans can move 10 points clear of second place Real with a win on Sunday against lowly Almeria

Real Madrid cut the gap on Barcelona by one point but gave the Catalans the chance to extend it to 10 on Sunday as they drew 1-1 with Atletico in the Madrid derby.

Down to 10 men, Atletico took the lead through Jose Gimenez, but Madrid youngster Alvaro Rodriguez levelled with a fine header.

The first half was a dismal affair with virtually no chances.

Reinildo Mandava went off injured for Atletico with a knee injury, and was replaced by Gimenez — he is set to miss months.

Early in the second half Atletico substitute Angel Correa was sent off for elbowing Antonio Rudiger in the chest.

Madrid brought on Rodriguez but immediately fell behind, when Gimenez nodded Antoine Griezmann’s free kick home.

Madrid still struggled to worry Oblak too much until Rodriguez leaped up to head home Luka Modric’s corner and earn a draw.
