Real Madrid 1-0 Granada: Asensio strike seals the three points

Asensio struck with 15' to play as Madrid strengthened grip on top spot

Marco Asensio struck with 15 minutes to play as Real Madrid beat Granada 1-0 on Sunday at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The win extends Madrid's lead at the top of the table to six points after 23 games after Sevilla were held by Osasuna on Saturday.

Madrid were missing Ferland Mendy, Casemiro, Karim Benzema and Vinicius against Granada.

Carlo Ancelotti's side struggled to find the breakthrough and the first half ended goalless.

However, just as Granada began to believe, a brilliant long-range strike from Asensio sealed the three points for Madrid.

They thought they had a penalty late on, too, but the foul on substitute Eden Hazard was adjudged to have been outside the box.

While Madrid strengthen their grip on top spot, Granada stay 16th, six points clear of the relegation zone.

Both teams have difficult away games next weekend, with Madrid traveling to Villarreal and Granada at Real Sociedad.
