Fornals scored a brilliant winner late in the game

Barça could move 19 points clear of Madrid on Sunday

Real Madrid's poor run of form continued on Saturday as they were beaten 1-0 by Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Pablo Fornals scored the only goal of the game in the 87th minute, chipping home over Keylor Navas after the Costa Rican had denied Enes Unal.

The three points moved Villarreal on to 31 points, just one behind Madrid, who remain fourth in the table.

Zinedine Zidane will come under increased pressure now as is his side remain 16 points behind leaders Barcelona, who play Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Madrid have failed to win in their last three league games, losing to Barcelona, drawing with Celta Vigo and now losing to Villarreal.

You have to go back to Dec. 9 for the last time they won in the league: a 5-0 win against Sevilla before the Club World Cup.

They were even held by second-tier Numancia in midweek, although progressed in the Copa del Rey having won the first leg a week earlier 3-0.

Los Blancos were not poor against Villarreal and will feel hard done by to have lost the game.

They had a number of penalty appeals turned down and encountered Villarreal goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo in spectacular form.

The stopper made saves from Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo's long-distance efforts, before making a fine stop from Ronaldo from five yards out.

By the end of the game, Madrid had had over 20 shots, with eight of them on target, but it was Villarreal who stole the points.

Breaking, Unal was played in and when his shot rebounded into Fornals' path, the impressive midfielder produced a delicate chip to beat Navas and win the game.
