The visitors lost their first game of the season in Germany on Tuesday night

Reigning European champions Real Madrid lost their first game of the season in Germany as RB Leipzig earned an exciting win.

Josko Gvardiol, Christopher Nkunku and Timo Werner’s goals made the difference for the hosts while Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo were on the scoresheet for Madrid.

Real Madrid had not lost in the league, Champions League or European Super Cup this season but now have.

Gvardiol sent Leipzig ahead after Courtois saved a header from a corner, and then Nkunku rifled home after another set piece was worked into the area.

Vinicius pulled a goal back with a good header just before the break.

However Werner finished in the final stages to win Leipzig the game, despite Rodrygo winning and scoring a spot kick at the death.

Madrid are already in the last 16 but have a fight on their hands for top spot, while Leipzig face Shakhtar in a shoot-out for the other qualifying spot.
