Rayo ended Madrid's unbeaten start with a thrilling win in Vallecas

Real Madrid's unbeaten start to the LaLiga season ended on Monday as Rayo Vallecano beat them 3-2.

Luka Modric and Eder Militao cancelled out Santi Comesana's early goal but Alvaro Garcia levelled before the break and Oscar Trejo's twice-taken penalty sealed the three points in the second half.

Madrid's defeat sees them knocked off top spot by Barca, who move two points clear ahead of their game at Osasuna on Tuesday.

Rayo, meanwhile, not only become the first side to beat Madrid domestically this season but also the first team to take points off Madrid and Barça having held the Catalans to a goalless draw earlier in the season.

Comesana gave Rayo a fifth minute lead but Madrid pulled level when Marcos Asensio was adjudged to have been fouled in the box and Luka Modric scored the penalty.

Militao then brilliantly headed Los Blancos ahead but Alvaro equalised in the 44th minute to bring a pulsating first half to an end.

Rayo were brilliant after the break and they won it in the 67th minute when Dani Carvajal handled the ball in the box.

Trejo missed the initial penalty but Carvajal had encroached and Thibaut Courtois was off his line, leading to a re-take, which the Trejo showed tremendous courage to retake and bury.
