Doctors from PSG and Brazil reached a joint decision

Neymar will not play against Real Madrid next week

Definitive: Neymar will not play in te second leg of Paris Saint-Germain's round of 16 tie against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The French club confirmed as much on Wednesday, bringing to an end the soap opera which had been generated around the Brazil international's fitness. 

Neymar will undergo surgery this weekend in Sao Paulo (Brazil) under the eye of Brazil doctor Rodrigo Lamar and PSG's medic Gérard Saillant. 

The decision was taken on Wednesday after a meeting between the Ligue 1 side, Brazil's doctor and the player's father. 

"After an initial treatment period of three days, in line with a strict medical protocol, a joint decision has been taken between the medical staffs of both PSG and the Brazil national team," a statement from the French side said. 

"In accordance with the player, it has been decided that Neymar will undergo surgery in Brazil at the end of this week. He will be operated on by doctor Rodrigo Lasmar and accompanied by PSG's Professor Saillant."

Neymar injured his ankle and broke a bone in his foot in Sunday's win over Marseille. His father has said he will be out for up to two months. 

The decision was made based on the World Cup, with Neymar keen to be fit to lead Brazil in Russia and this option giving him the best chance of being back in form when the tournament starts.
