Official: Toni Kroos renews Real Madrid contract until 2023
The German has extended his deal at the club despite a tough season
Toni Kroos has reached an agreement to extend his contract with Real Madrid until 2023, the club announced on Monday.
The German midfielder has been criticized for his performances this season as Madrid have struggled on the pitch but he will not be one of the players to leave as part of a summer shakeup.
Kroos' new terms will take him through until he is 33. He will speak in a press conference later on Monday at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Supporters had turned against him at times this season -- along with Gareth Bale and Marcelo -- but coach Zinedine Zidane wanted to make it clear that he remains important to the team.
The same cannot be said for Bale, who Zidane is desperate to move on this summer. Madrid's problem is finding a buyer prepared to pay a big fee for the Welshman and take on his salary demands.
