The 33-year-old Ballon d'Or winner is set for Bernabeu stay after all

Luka Modric will sign a new deal which will keep him at Real Madrid until the summer of 2021. That is what Marca have reported on Friday, saying that an agreement is in place between the Croatian and Los Blancos. They talk about what is likely to be Modric's "last contract" with Madrid after months of rumours suggesting the Ballon d'Or winner could leave Santiago Solari's side.

The noise about the midfielder's future began last summer when there was a very tempting offer from Inter. Modric stayed at Madrid in the end and his renwal could now be made official in the coming days. If he fulfills the contract, Modric would end his career at the club at the age of 36.

The Croatian arrived at Madrid in 2012 with Jose Mourinho on the bench. The talks with Tottenham were not easy as the English club made it difficult for the player to leave. In the end, Madrid paid 35 million euros for him -- a price which seemed a lot at the time but now does not seem excessive at all.

Modric, currently 33, has become a reference in the Madrid side in recent years. This season he has improved after making a slow start following the World Cup, where he reached the final with Croatia. Santiago Solari has made him a key part of his XI.
