Real Madrid won their first title since 2012 with a 2-0 win away at Malaga on Sunday.

Madrid went into the game knowing that a point would be enough to wrap up top spot for the first time in five years — the last time they were top Jose Mourinho was in charge.

What could have been a tense afternoon quickly became a relaxing one when Cristiano Ronaldo, who’s ending the season in great form, opened the scoring in just the second minute.

Malaga, to their credit, didn’t lie down easily and created a number of chances once they settled into the game.

However, Keylor Navas, not for the first time in recent weeks, was in fine form and made two really impressive saves to keep Madrid ahead going into the break.

Karim Benzema’s second half goal then wrapped up the three points for Zinedine Zidane’s side and ensured they would pip Barca to the title.

Barcelona, meanwhile, beat Eibar 4-2, but it served for little as only a Malaga win would have allowed them to claim top spot for a third consecutive season.

As well as winning La Liga, Madrid’s goals at La Rosaleda meant they end the season having scored in each of their 38 league games, something they had never previously managed.
